Finding Before and After School Care for Your Child
Even though summer’s only just begun, now’s the time to prepare yourself and your child for going back to school. This time, make your life a little easier by organizing your school and child care arrangements early, especially if your child is attending a new school next fall.
Because there are a number of programs available, consider your specific scheduling needs, your child’s age and interests and your budget when choosing the best program for your child. Here are some of the many programs and services available to provide before and after school care:
- Child Care Centers
- Family Child Care Homes
- In-Home Caregivers
- Before- and After-School Programs
- Enrichment Programs
- Extracurricular Programs
- Tutoring Programs
- Special Education Programs
- Nursery Schools/Preschools
- Pre-K/Kindergarten Programs
- Elementary Schools
- Middle Schools
- High Schools
Due to the diversity of options available, you will need to adapt your evaluation process according to the program—and the needs of your child. In general, visit programs with your child, interview providers and ask other parents about their experiences with programs you are considering.
To help you find programs in your area and choose the right care providers for you and your family, check to see if your employer offers a Work/Life program¾a free benefit that’s designed to save you time, legwork and stress by providing information and locating resources for you and your child.
